Malashree, an institution dedicated to excellence in cultural pursuits, is set to present the 9th edition of Prerona, an Indian Dance Festival, on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, from 6:00 p.m. onwards at Gyan Manch, Kolkata.

A celebration of India’s rich and diverse classical dance traditions, Prerona brings together accomplished dancers and ensembles representing Odissi, Manipuri, Sattriya Nritya, Bharatanatyam and Kathak. The festival aims to create a vibrant platform for artists while celebrating the depth, discipline and continuing legacy of Indian classical dance.

The evening will also feature the felicitation of SNA Awardees 2026, Smt. Tapati Chowdhurie and Shri Dinesh Poddar, in recognition of their significant contribution to the field of Indian performing arts.

Dr. Haimanti Chattopadhyay will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Guru Smt. Rina Jana will be the Guest of Honour.

The festival will present a diverse line-up of performers. Malashree Odissi Group will present Navagraha, under the dance direction of Dr. Arpita Venkatesh, who will also perform an Odissi solo. Somabha Bandopadhyay will represent Manipuri, while Biraj Roy and Rumi Debnath will present Sattriya Nritya. Jalsa Chandra will showcase Bharatanatyam.

Adding to the evening’s repertoire, KRITIKA Odissi Group will present Yatra, a journey towards the sublime infinite, under the dance direction of Guru Smt. Rina Jana. Malashree Kathak Group will present Umang, with dance direction by Smt. Sampita Chatterjee.

The festival’s visual presentation will be enhanced by the light design of Nitya Naskar, complementing the varied moods and aesthetics of the performances.

Through Prerona, Malashree continues its endeavour to nurture Indian classical arts and bring established as well as emerging practitioners before audiences in Kolkata. The 9th edition promises an evening of artistic expression, tradition and cultural celebration, bringing together multiple classical dance forms on one stage.
