HYDERABAD: With the commercial rollout of Russian Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V yet to take place nearly three months after it received the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) emergency use authorisation (EUA), Dr Reddy’s Laboratories on Tuesday said a commercial rollout had not been put on hold and was expected in the coming weeks.
“Dr Reddy’s will strengthen the commercial roll-out of Sputnik V in the coming weeks. Neither the ongoing soft commercial launch nor work towards its ramp-up in India have been put on hold,” the company said in a statement.
Dr Reddy’s, which is the Indian partner of Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), also said that the nationwide soft launch of the vaccine has reached over 50 cities and towns across the country since the pilot was rolled out in mid-May.
The company, however, did not elaborate on the reasons for the delays in the full-fledged commercial rollout of the vaccine, which has been delayed by nearly a month going by the timeline of mid-June that the company had announced earlier.
Sputnik V received the EUA nod in the second week of April and its soft pilot launch was kicked off on May 14 with a senior Dr Reddy’s Laboratories official getting the first dose. As part of the first phase of the soft pilot the company began vaccinating its employees and their families and after that opened up vaccinations to the general public as well last month.
Since then the company has been slowly ramping up the availability of the Russian vaccine at private hospitals across the country.
“Dr Reddy’s has partnered with major hospitals across the country for this purpose, all of whom have successfully administered Sputnik V in India, including ongoing commercial roll-outs to the public,” it said.
According to Dr Reddy’s, the vaccine has so far covered cities like Hyderabad, Vizag, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Miryalaguda, Vijayawada, Baddi, Kolhapur, Kochi, Raipur, Chandigarh, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Coimbatore, Ranchi, Jaipur and Lucknow.
It has also been rolled out in cities like Patna, Bhubaneshwar, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Palakkad, Allahabad, Dimapur, Kohima, Indore, Bhopal, Surat, Cuttack, Dharwad, Ernakulam, Ratlam, Faridabad, Srinagar, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Gulbarga, Madurai, Guntur, Kannur, Jabalpur, Jalandhar, Kanpur and Mysore, it added.
