NEW DELHI: New inductees in the Union Cabinet like Bhupender Yadav, Sarbananda Sonowal, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ashwini Vaishnaw and Narayan Rane have got a leg-up as they have been included in important cabinet committees, which have been reconstituted ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament beginning July 19.
Union ministers Virendra Kumar, Kiren Rijiju, Anurag Thakur will be new members of Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, headed by defence minister Rajnath Singh.
Smriti Irani, Bhupender Yadav and Sonowal have been included in the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Cabinet Committee on Security is unchanged as its composition remains the same as before. Same is the case with the Appointments Committee, which clears appointments in the rank of joint secretary and above. The two-member Appointments Committee of the Cabinet comprises the Prime Minister and home minister Amit Shah.
The new members of the Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth, headed by the PM, are Union ministers Narayan Rane, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The Cabinet Committee on Employment and Skill Development, headed by the PM, has new members in Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw, Bhupender Yadav, Ramchandra Prasad Singh and G Kishan Reddy. JD(U) president Ramchandra Prasad Singh is the only cabinet minister from the alliance partners. RPI chief Ramdas Athawale and Apna Dal chief Anupriya Patel are ministers of state.
The changes in the Cabinet Committees followed a major rejig in the Union Council of ministers that saw induction of 36 new faces as well as changes in portfolios. The role of those included in the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs is significant as they monitor the progress of government business in Parliament and also draw the schedule of the session, which has already been done for the upcoming Monsoon session starting July 19.
