Banichakra to Celebrate the 100th Birth Centenary of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar with a Special Cultural Tribute

Banichakra, one of Kolkata’s longstanding cultural organisations, is set to commemorate the 100th birth centenary of legendary Bengali actor Mahanayak Uttam Kumar with a special tribute ceremony on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the EZCC Auditorium, Salt Lake, Kolkata.

The commemorative programme, organised by Banichakra in collaboration with the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), will celebrate the extraordinary artistic legacy of Uttam Kumar, whose contribution to Bengali cinema continues to hold a special place in the cultural memory of generations.

Speaking about the occasion, Haimanti Shukla, President, Banichakra, said, “Mahanayak Uttam Kumar was not merely a celebrated actor. He became an emotion that continues to live in the hearts of millions. On his birth centenary, it is our privilege and responsibility at Banichakra to pay tribute to his enduring contribution to Bengali cinema and culture. Through music and specially curated thematic presentations, we hope to create an evening that honours his timeless legacy.”

The evening will feature a vibrant cultural programme comprising musical performances and thematic presentations, offering audiences an opportunity to revisit and celebrate the life, artistry and enduring influence of Uttam Kumar.

The programme is scheduled to commence at 3:00 PM at the EZCC Auditorium, Salt Lake.

According to the event details shared by Banichakra, Shri Suvendu Adhikari, Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, will attend the programme as the Chief Guest. The official West Bengal Government website currently identifies Shri Suvendu Adhikari as the Chief Minister and also lists him as Minister-in-Charge of the Information & Cultural Affairs Department.

The occasion is also expected to bring together distinguished personalities from the fields of film, music, culture and public life, alongside representatives of the cultural community.
